Tronsmart T428 Android mini PC arrived on time and have started shipping them to those who placed pre-orders. They even have a Tronsmart T428 review up on their blog. Also of interest is that they have replaced the photo of the T428′s bare board with photos of what the T428 actually looks like.

There is nothing of note regarding the housing of the T428. The Tronsmart logo is attached to one side of the housing and it has a cap that protects the HDMI port. The design is simple and pleasing but since the Android mini PCs are usually hidden behind the TV, looks doesn’t really matter.

The big surprise however is that the T428 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean so that is a plus point for Tronsmart. Hopefully they did not rush the unit out with the latest 4.2 OS and have done enough testing to ensure that it is stable.

The rest of the specification remains as per originally announced. It is powered by a quad core Rockchip RK3188 ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with quad core Mali-400 MP4 GPU. The RK3188 has a maximum clock speed of 1.8 GHz but it is not known what clock speed the T428 is set to. Normally, the clock speed is set lower than the maximum value due to over heating problems.

RAM is 2GB Hynix DDR3 and storage ROM is 8GB. There is a micro SD slot for additional storage that supports up to 32GB. WiFi is powered by a Broadcom AP6330 chip  and it has built-in Bluetooth 4.0.

There is a single USB 2.0 host and a micro USB port that is used for connecting to power.

There is no customized launcher as it uses the default Android launcher. Because the OS is Android 4.2, the T428 has support for WiFi Display. This is similar to Miracast and allows the user to mirror the display on another WiFi Display compatible device on the TV wirelessly via WiFi. The standard can support up to 1080p HD video and 5.1 surround sound. It is also commonly known as WiDi and it is developed by Intel.

Geekbuying also tried out XBMC but the version 12.1 of XBMC for Android did not work. They tried out beta 13.0 and it supposedly work. However more detailed information is not available at this moment.

As more of the T428s get into the hands of users, we can expect more Tronsmart T428 reviews to appear online for a clearer picture of how well it performs compared to the older dual core models.
